Area post offices closing early for Thanksgiving holiday

DAYTON — You’ll be thankful if you check your post office’s hours this week before mailing letters, cards or packages. Some Dayton-area post offices are shortening their hours for the Thanksgiving holiday.

A number of area post offices will close at either noon or 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 27, according to U.S. Postal Service officials.

Regular mail delivery for Wednesday and Friday will be unaffected by the change.

Post offices have curtailed hours on the days before and after Thanksgiving for several years, said David Walton, spokesman for Postal Service.

“Based on previous trends we tend to see fewer customers coming into our lobbies” on those days, Walton said. Many people travel over the Thanksgiving holiday, he noted.

Limiting hours at some locations also saves money for the Postal Service.

“Especially now with the current state of the economy, we have to be conscious of how we spend money,” Walton said. “So this is one way of doing that, curtailing hours.”

Post offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, for Thanksgiving. There will be no regular mail delivery on Thursday except for Express Mail.

Most banks, government offices and non-retail businesses also will be closed for the holiday.

The Dayton Bulk Business Mail Acceptance Unit will be open for regular hours on Wednesday and Friday, but will be closed on Thursday.

Post offices closing at 2 p.m. Wednesday and Friday: Beavercreek, Dayton View, Huber Heights, Kettering, Main Office Window Service, Washington Twp.

I'm a vet as well, bu**head.
I certainly DO hope things change.
Like a big fat pay raise (every year) and COLA increase as well.
I'm sorry about the choices you've made in life, pal.(NOT!)
Ahhh, life is certainly good indeed!

It would be helpful to know which post offices are closing early. Mr. Larsen quoted Mr. David Walton (USPS spokesman)and couldn't he tell us which ones are closing early. Why are they keeping this a secret?
