HAMILTON — A wedding reception at a police lodge ended violently early Monday morning, and authorities are looking for the uninvited guest who they say stabbed the groom and his brother.
Police had made no arrests as of Monday afternoon, April 13, following the overnight stabbings at a reception at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 38, 180 Joe Nuxhall Way.
The groom, 20-year-old Aurelio Romero, of the 3000 block of Oberton Court in Springdale, was stabbed twice in the back, according to police records. Romero was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital.
His brother, 24-year-old Nicholas Domingas, was stabbed once in the stomach and taken by life squad to The Fort Hamilton Hospital, according to records. Domingas was later transported to University Hospital.
Both men are in stable condition, according to the bride, 18-year-old Mira Romero. Her husband is expected to be released today, but his brother is being kept for observation until Wednesday, she said.
The reception of about 150 guests was going well until 20 or more uninvited people showed up carrying liquor and beer after 10 p.m., Mira Romero said.
As the party came to an end shortly before 1 a.m., Romero said the males in the uninvited group, who she recognized as Mexican immigrants who live in Hamilton, ganged up and attacked an invited guest outside the hall. When her husband stepped in to break it up, she said the group attacked him and he was stabbed.
Hamilton Police Detective and FOP President Brian Robinson said the hall is rented frequently by private groups and is separate from where FOP members meet. He said members have been reviewing how the site is managed, but added that it appeared the violence was not caused by the wedding group that rented the hall.
